About

Welcome to Feminist Yogi Body, a dedicated space for constructive conversations about feminism, yoga and our bodies.

I'm Brandi, a feminist psychologist, community college professor and aspiring yogi. As a habitual fitness nut, I accidently fell in love with yoga while trying to prevent running injuries. I'm not a guru, yoga teacher or anything close to an expert. I'm just an ordinary yoga student. While my child's pose is graceful, a steady headstand practice still seems like a pipe dream to me. I'm immensely grateful if I can get through yoga class without facing the right side of the room when everyone else is facing the left.

This is my yoga story. Its a story of my exploration of NYC yoga studios, my study of the history and meaning of yoga, reflections on how yoga affects our health, and my trials and tribulations as I learn to develop my own feminist yoga practice.
